SAM Selected as Association Management Partner for the American Homebrewers Association (AHA)
Strategic Association Management (SAM) has been selected as the association management partner for the American Homebrewers Association (AHA), marking a major milestone in AHA's transition to independence. SAM, an accredited Association Management Company (AMC), will provide full-service operational leadership and staffing support as AHA builds its future as a standalone nonprofit.
After more than 45 years as a division of the Brewers Association (BA), AHA launched its transition to autonomy in January 2025. The move reflects the organization's growing momentum, expanding community and long-term vision to shape the future of homebrewing.
SAM began its engagement earlier this year with a 90-day onboarding phase, focused on establishing infrastructure, implementing new systems and aligning strategic goals. Full operational responsibilities officially transitioned to SAM on July 7. A dedicated SAM team now supports daily operations and long-range planning, working in partnership with AHA Executive Director Julia Herz, CAE, who continues to lead the organization independently with the support of SAM.
"We're entering a transformative chapter for AHA," said Herz. "This transition is about more than independence—it’s about intentionally building a structure that enables us to grow, adapt and better serve our members. SAM's deep experience and strategic approach make them the ideal partner for this next phase.”
Under Herz's leadership, SAM Account Executive Cody Matkin will serve as AHA Director of Operations, leading the internal team providing a comprehensive range of services including board support, membership, finance, education, communications and sponsorship development.
"With a vibrant member base and a clear mission, AHA is poised for long-term success," said Megan Woodburn, CAE, SAM Founder and Co-CEO. "We are honored to support AHA's bold step forward and to help steward its legacy and future as an independent organization."
