Steve Durham

Account Executive

Steve Durham serves as an Account Executive at SAM, bringing more than a decade of association experience in finance, operations, programming, and organizational leadership. Since joining SAM in 2023, Steve has supported association clients with a strong foundation in financial oversight, operational management, and member-focused service.

Steve is an active leader in the association community and serves on the board of the Association of Osteopathic State Executive Directors. He is a strong believer in strategic thinking and enjoys helping organizations look beyond day-to-day operations to identify opportunities for long-term growth, clarity, and impact.

Prior to joining SAM, Steve served as Director of Financial Operations for the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association from 2015 to 2024. In 2019, he received TOMA’s Meritorious Service Award, a statewide honor presented annually to one individual in recognition of outstanding service.

Steve earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Texas. Before beginning his career in association management, he worked in the insurance industry, reporting to the CFO of several companies, including a subsidiary of The Travelers Insurance Group.

A Fort Worth native, Steve has called Austin home since 2004.

Family: My amazing wife Lori and two cats—Max and Lucy.

Outside of work, I love... playing music, watching baseball, playing pickleball, and reading historical nonfiction.

What inspires me about working with associations: Working with associations gives me a sense of purpose I did not experience in other industries. I am inspired by people who bring genuine passion to their professions, communities, and missions, and I enjoy helping them advance ideas that can make a meaningful difference. 

My passions and skills: I enjoy working through complex information using words, charts, and numbers. I have always been fascinated by how people make important decisions, especially the details, tradeoffs, and patterns that shape those choices. I value the opportunity to help individuals and organizations better understand their options so they can move forward with confidence.

Favorite SAM core value: Build trust. I believe trust is built through consistency, follow-through, and a willingness to understand the details that matter to each client and organization. While all of SAM’s core values are important, building trust resonates with me because it creates the foundation for long-term relationships, stronger collaboration, and meaningful results.
